Varsity sports are those in which players are involved in representing their school in competition with other colleges/universities at the highest levels. There are three major NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) varsity sports divisions – Division I being the highest level, with a breakdown for football into Division I-A and Division I-AA; Division II; and Division III.
Varsity teams represent the high school or college in intercollegiate or national competitions and usually consist of older and more experienced players. Junior varsity teams are made up of younger or less experienced athletes, although they may be asked to replace a varsity player in a big game.
Varsity is a term that is obviously used for more experienced teams while JV, JayVee or Junior Varsity are terms that are usually reserved for players and teams that obviously lack experience and are not ready to play varsity games. But is this the only difference between JV and varsity or there is more than that meets the eye?
SOCCER FORMATION EXAMPLES . U.S. Soccer tends to favor a 4-3-3 formation. Two common variations of the 4-3-3 formation are a defensive setup and an attack-minded setup, based on where the 8 lines up. Generally, the 8 is a box-to-box player, so this can rotate continually through the game to react to the run of play.
